Should You Bother Ordering A Special Meal On Your Next Singapore Airlines Flight?

I’d heard a lot about Singapore Airlines having the best food of any airline. But, if you set one of their default meals down in front of me along with any other airlines’, I wouldn’t be able to tell which was which.

On the way over to Bali, my meal was fine, but not notable in any way. And it definitely wasn’t better than some of the really tasty meals I had a few years back on Thai Airways. When all was said and done, I found the food on Singapore Airlines to be the same starch-heavy meals most airlines serve.

To try as best you can to remedy the situation, I’d suggest ordering a special meal even if you don’t have special dietary or religious needs. Because I often book on through Singapore Airlines, I was able to request my meal from their website for my return trip. Travel Boyfriend, who booked his frequent flier ticket through Delta (a Singapore Airlines partner), had to call.

Although an atheist, he ordered a Muslim meal on the way out to Bali and was really pleased. He said he was served a variety of curries and even some roti prata-type bread (delicious!). Although agnostic, I’m looking forward to my non-vegetarian Hindu meal, which the Singapore Airlines site claims will be Indian in nature with homemade naan and daal!

The main benefit of ordering a special meal though is really that you’ll get your food served first. Sure, you may have to wait longer than most after you’ve finished with a messy tray in your lap, but for one shining moment you’re apt to feel that you’re one of the most special people on the plane. Someone important enough to be served before all others. And isn’t that really reason enough to convert?

I made the best experiences with ordering vegetarian meals. But you have to order them with your flightbooking. Then they will serve better meals.

Singapore Airlines has a really good reputation. In my eyes their food is the best as well as the airline itself.

Howdy, Flug. Yes, it’s important to order the meal beforehand. Thanks for the clarification. SA is said to have the best meals. I’ll have to fly them a few more times to concur. But on this trip, the special meal was definitely worth the extra effort.

      Thanks for stopping by!

Hey Betty, I recommend singapore airlines to my clients as well. But I don´t tell them about the special meals, because in my eyes the “normal” meals are outstandig enough. But next time I´ll fly SA I´ll try the special meal. Which one did you choose? Kind Regards

I love this! Although I order a vegetarian meal… because I am veggie… I never get tired of getting my food before everyone else.

I found the food on Singapore Airlines to be really good. But i think Air New Zealand would get my vote for the best airline food. I may be a bit biased as they screwed up my veggie meal order so the flight attendant pinched some food from first class for me!

I totally agree with the disappointing food quality in SQ. It gets worse and worse.
I did try the special meal request for special diet, still nothing to write home about.
I had much better experience with Thai airways and Cathay.

Have just got back to Paris from Oz via Singapore Airlines . Both directions and both legs the food was awful – it tasted like bad food factory rubbish . The cheese out of Paris was the cheapest , most processed , worst quality kind . The bun tasted like cardboard . Half of the beef had gristle . The potatoes were soggy and tasted not good . The vegetables were tasteless . And the list went on and on . The drinks weren’t much better . Incidentally cognac should be at room temperature+ – not served with ice .

I ended up eating various items – biscuits etc. – that I had brought along plus had meals at Changi on the way through .

Doesn’t anyone taste the meals in Singapore Airlines and the food factories ?
